VLX Top Bag

I got this big ugly bag at Cycle Salvage here in Ottawa. It looked really bad .. was all colours and pretty icky. I sanded it down and rattle can'd it flat black. My bike has the chrome strips behind the seat. These are #8 (metric) bolted into the fender subframe. I got some quarter inch aluminum plate cut and drilled a couple of holes that line up with the existing holes and used four longer bolts (70s I think).

I then bolted on some 1x4 maple and screwed the bag to that. I also used the bracket that joins the pillion to the main seat as a brace (drilled two holes and bolted it on). I sprayed the bracket flat black too.

The thing is ugly but functional. I can fit my rain gear, boots, jacket and full helmet in it with room to spare.

I'm working on a backrest for it now .. it sure is comfey to lean back and put your feet up when cruising.
